Promoting UK short films in international markets
Our Export Development Team is currently developing a policy to support the international promotion of UK short films and their makers, in partnership with Film Export Group.
A number of organisations provide promotional opportunities and support for short films. These include:
The British Council
Through the International Short Film Festivals Submission Scheme the British Council selects UK short films for screening at 50-60 film festivals with which they are associated. The British Council may also contribute towards the cost of making a first print or award travel grants to filmmakers.
Regional or national screen agencies
Financial support for short filmmakers is sometimes available on a local or regional basis from the most appropriate screen agency.
BAFTA short film awards
The BAFTA Short Film Awards are open to UK productions that have been screened or accepted into an international film festival recognised by BAFTA.
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences short film awards
The Oscars® are open to live action and animated short films from the UK that fulfil the Academy's full submission criteria.
