Want to see more of me?
A striking new series of portraits of Black British film actors go on display at the National Portrait Gallery from 25 April to 7 September.
'Want to see more of me' is a dynamic group of images, opulent and rich in colour, celebrating both individual and collective achievement and contributing to debates around diversity, on-screen representation, content and portrayal. Sitters include Colin Salmon, Adrian Lester, Ashley Walters, Mona Hammond, Sophie Okonedo and Noel Clarke. The series of 25 striking portraits have been taken by acclaimed photographer Donald MacLellan.
MacLellan is an established portrait photographer, whose images have appeared regularly in national and international magazines over the past ten years. Primarily studio based, his portfolio includes leading figures across the arts and entertainment industries such as John Hurt, Tilda Swinton, Benjamin Zephaniah and Ewan McGregor. He has had many commissions for book jackets and record covers along with numerous advertising and design commissions. The National Portrait Gallery has previously exhibited Maclellan's work Black Power (1998) and Tartan Army (2000).
The portraits have been supported by the UK Film Council in order to celebrate and support Black film talent and raise the debate about the demand for greater on-screen diversity and will be on display at the National Portrait Gallery from 25 April to 7 September.
